Not quite
I bought this bike from a Suzuki dealer in Randburg in about 1990. This bike had been used as a short
circuit racer and then out back on the road. It wasn’t in the best condition
when I got it.
The picture above shows the bike as I bought it,
with the standard twin shocks. I converted this to a mono shock using a Honda
part. It worked better than the old marzocchi shocks.
These were very long (sharpened the steering) but caused problems at speed (wobbles).
The wheels were from a GPz,
similar to the red one. This GPz1100 belonged to my brother. The rear tyre was
originally a 160 but that was too wide for the rim so I took it down to a 140.
The swing-arm was also from the GPz. IT had an 1170
Wiseco kit and smooth bores. The front callipers were Brembo as was the rear.
Most of the body work was from a
Eddie Lawson Replica but the bike wasn’t one. I didn’t have the numbered side
covers.
It wasn’t very reliable, I think the coils were
shot, but it looked cool.
