Yamaha DT 125 LC

The first of many…

This was our first bike. I say our as my brother and I shared it(!) Our folks could only afford 1 decent bike so rather than have a brace of mopeds we got this one.

It was 1983 and the bike had just come into the country and we had one.

It had a 16hp liquid cooled non-powervalve 123cc motor.

It was dead reliable, in later years my brother used it to college and must have put about 30,000 kilometers on. Without changing the piston or rings!

We did a few mods, I put an IT175 rear shock in it which made the rear about 4 inches higher than stock.

We also uncorked the silencer for a bit more power. A person called Mark Powell tried to de-coke the header by rattling an old chain around inside of it; then he dropped the chain in! we had to cut the pipe open with an angle grinder. Idiot!

We learned off road on this thing having a few spills on the way.
