Trans America Trail - 2008

Day 11 – Moab, Utah.

Miles: 0 (stayed in Moab!)

Hotel: Super8 Moab, Utah

Commentary:

Stayed in Moab for a day as I’d booked into the Super8 for two days and wanted to see the Arches National Park.

I’m glad I did, this national park is outstanding.

Again it was cooking hot so t-shirt and jeans were the order of the day.

The parks entrance is just north of Moab and the scenery starts straight away.

Above are just a few of the shots I took, I could have stopped anywhere and everywhere and taken more.

I did take a ride to the ‘Delicate arch’ but there’s quite a distance to walk to the arch itself.

By the time I got there it was “hotter than a snakes ass in a wagon rut” so I thought I’d use the zoom.

I got back into Moab for lunch and cruised around the town.

It’s a great little place; lots of outdoor pursuits shops. I stopped at one and got a kind of light duty duffel bag. I was sick to death at this point of having to struggling with luggage; putting it all in a big bag on the back seemed just like the right thing to do. It was.

The combo of the Wolf-man tank bag and the duffel was perfect. I was learning less is more.

I took the bike through the car-wash (the Americans call them car-washes but we would call them a jet wash).

After covering the chain with NAPA lube I was all set for the next day.

Journal Quote:

Had a quiet day today in Moab. Went to an outdoor ship and got a saddle/duffel bag for all the kit and hopefully it will do the job. Also took the bike through the jet-wash and got the chain lubed. Went for a ride to the Arches National Park and took some great photos. Had a chicken salad at Denny’s and lots to drink. It’s red hot outside and I need to get going very early tomorrow otherwise I’m going to cook in the desert!

Short entry today, miss home but am getting into the riding now. Will try to meet up with Jono earlier and start the trek to LA.
