Trans America Trail - 2008
Review – Touratech RB Compact.
This was a
quality road book that I needed for Sams
instructions. I got it from the Touratech website and it wasn’t cheap!
Still I thought
it’d be good as most of their stuff is.
Well it was and
it wasn’t. The quality of construction was very good and the roller was good
too. It had rubber bands that turned both rollers at the same time and it’s mount to the cross-bar was strong looking. However the
face plate and it’s mounting system was rubbish.
The standard
face plate is thin, not that this was a problem but it was held in place by 4
tiny screws. These are so small you are almost guaranteed to lose them when
changing the roll. They also screw into Perspex plates that look like this. This will strip in no time.
I decided to attached a more robust plate and mounting system: it looks
like this and this.
When it was put together it looked like this.
I was changing
my road book everyday and this mod helped no end.
